Come out to the Hazel Dell School to experience a day of life in a one room school house that was built and opened in 1874. 150 years ago! We will spend the day getting absorbed in the history of that time and what life would have been like.

We are aiming to dress and pretend that the year is actually 1874.

Pack a lunch and eat on the lawn after school is over.

About Lauren,

Hello! I’m Lauren Spencer, a passionate lifelong learner, Christian, wife, and mama of two little boys! Professionally, I have spent the last 8 years observing and exploring how children develop and learn. I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Early Childhood and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Northwest Missouri State University. While attending Northwest, I traveled to Reggio Emilia, Italy to study and learn from their Early Childhood centers. It was there that I became inspired by their child led approach to learning, exploring, and being in nature. Since then I have taught 5 years of elementary school for Liberty Public Schools and am currently teaching First Grade for Discovery Homeschool Academy. I am certified in Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory literacy, conscious discipline, CPR, and first aid.
